10 Great Blockbusters Held Back By A Terrible Lead Performance

4. Charlie Hunnam - Pacific Rim

Anybody that's seen Sons of Anarchy, The Lost City of Z or Guy Ritchie's The Gentlemen knows that Charlie Hunnam is far from the terrible actor that his misadventures in the realm of Hollywood blockbusters seem to have painted him as, and it would probably be for the best if he stayed away from chancing his arm at headlining another big-budget blockbuster for a while yet.

Nobody paid to see Pacific Rim in order to witness a disgraced hero's bid for redemption, but it would at least help if the movie managed to give us a protagonist that was at least halfway interesting to tide us over until we got to the main course of giant robots and giant monsters beating seven shades of sh*t out of each other.

After trying to establish a tragic backstory that only leads to a yawn-inducing battle of the blands between Hunnam's Raleigh Beckett and his brother Yancy, the Geordie actor fails to give us any reason to care about a character that's less expressive than the giant robots he co-pilots, and they don't even have faces.

Obviously human drama was not Pacific Rim's major selling point, but Hunnam's lead performance was so weak that most people just found themselves twiddling their thumbs until the smashy smashy started all over again.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
