10 Great Cliffhangers That Left You Gagging For The Next Movie
8. Before Sunset
Richard Linklater's Before trilogy started off in Vienna back in the 1990s and introduced us to Jesse and Céline as a pair of young students who meet on a train whilst traveling across Europe. After spending the day strolling through the city and getting to know one another they fall in love, but part the next day with a promise to meet up again in one year's time. Ten years later, when Before Sunset was released in cinemas, audiences learned that the planned meeting never took place and both have moved on with their lives. Still, passions run deep and once again they spend the day walking and talking, this time through the streets of Paris, reevaluating their lives and coming to realise that their feelings for one another haven't really changed. Before Sunset ends with a wonderfully ambiguous cliffhanger in which Jesse and Céline talk about the future in Céline's apartment. "Baby ... you are gonna miss that plane," says Céline, to which Jesse replies, "I know." Do they stay together or does he leave? Another ten years later, with the release of the third installment Before Midnight, audiences finally got their answer.
