10 Great Cliffhangers That Left You Gagging For The Next Movie

7. Kill Bill Vol. 1

Quentin Tarantino is renowned more than any other director for openly wearing his cinematic influences on his sleeve and Kill Bill, with its fusion of revenge thriller, kung fu classic and anime is perhaps the most overt of his films in this respect. After being left for dead by the The Deadly Viper Assassination Squad, the Bride (Uma Thurman) sets out to exact her revenge on the group, her thirst for vengeance exacerbated in no small part by the fact that she was pregnant at the time of the attack. After working her way through several members of the team in bloody showdowns she finally confronts Bill's protege Sofie Fatale about his whereabouts, leaving her alive as a threat to her former mentor. The great cliffhanger comes when Bill catches up with Sophie in the final reel, asking her if the Bride is aware of the fact that her daughter is still alive. Suddenly the audience realises that Bride's motivation will be radically transformed. At least they only had to wait a year to find out whether or not mother and daughter would be reunited.
