10 Great Cliffhangers That Left You Gagging For The Next Movie

6. The Matrix Reloaded

After the first installment of The Matrix trilogy was released in 1999 many people were confident that one of the greatest science fiction franchises of all time had been born. From its incredible action set pieces, heavily influenced by Hong Kong action cinema and anime, to the high concept premise of a world controlled by machines, its promise couldn't be underestimated. That The Matrix Reloaded turned out to be such a huge disappointment certainly upset a lot of people - aside from an exciting freeway chase sequence the action was over the top and cartoonish while the plot descended into one long and boring exposition scene after another. It was only by the end of the movie that hope for an improved final installment emerged. The cliffhanger which hinted at a possible return to form in The Matrix Revolutions not only saw Neo discovering his abilities working in the real world but also Agent Smith boarding their ship in the body of resistance fighter Bane. Unfortunately this great setup failed to deliver the goods - The Matrix Revolutions turned out to be even worse than Reloaded.
