10 Great Comic Book Movie Performances You Might Have Missed

9. Max Von Sydow as Judge Eustace Fargo, Judge Dredd

Name one bad performance Max Von Sydow has ever given. I dare you. He is the Swedish Samuel L. Jackson and alongside some pretty stunning production design (that was missing from the admittedly far superior reboot) he was by far and away the best thing about Stallone's ego project-gone-wrong. Judge Fargo is meant to be the model for the Judges, and given as he convinced us that he can take on the devil before duking it out with Sam J Jones (see Ted for any number of reasons why this is a one-sided bout in Flash Gordon's favour), convincing us that he was the embodiment of upholding the rule of law in harsh times is something Sydow seemed to take in his stride. The long walk was, perhaps, a search for the screenwriters - it's no coincidence that Fargo was holding a VERY large gun.... max von sydow judge dredd
