1. Doctor Doom
Despite his very unfortunate name, Victor Von Doom is one of the most imposing villains in the Marvel universe. He is one of the smartest people on the planet, a genius inventor and is also a sorcerer. He is the ruler of the European nation of Latveria, which gives him a regal demeanour and diplomatic immunity. Doctor Doom is primarily a villain of the Fantastic Four but he has come into conflict with most of the heroes in the Marvel universe at some point in time. Many of these heroes dread a confrontation with Doctor Doom. He wears a suit of armour, which he created himself, that augments his strength to superhuman levels. It can generate a defensive force field and can create lethal electric shocks. The armour is also self-supporting and can withstand extended periods underwater or in space. He creates many different robots which he uses for his purposes. Some of these are replicas of himself, dubbed Doombots. His mystical abilities allow him to use energy projection, generate shields and summon demonic creatures. It seems that the only weakness of Doctor Doom is his arrogance. Richard Reed (AKA Mister Fantastic of the Fantastic Four) tried to warn Victor about an error in one of his experiments, but Victor ignored him. He continued with the experiment with disastrous results. Victors face was scarred by the experiment, and that lead him to the creation of the armour and his intense hatred for Mister Fantastic. Doctor Doom has already appeared in film in the 2005 Fantastic Four film and its sequel. Sadly in those films he is a pale reflection of the impressive character from the comics.
Likelihood of appearing again Josh Trank, the director of Chronicle, is currently working on a Fantastic Four reboot to be released in 2015, with Matthew Vaughn signed on to produce. No doubt Victor Von Doom will serve as the primary villain for the film. The film will take place in the same continuity as the X-Men series, so we may well see Doctor Doom fighting the X-Men in film in the not-too-distant future.
What do you think? Is there another great comic book villain that you think needs proper film treatment?
