In Sick, long-time friends Parker and Miri decide to quarantine in a remote lake house during the COVID-19 pandemic. When the pair discover a masked stranger is trying to break in, the virus quickly becomes the least of their problems.

Although COVID-centred horror has been done before, Sick is among the few movies that deals with the premise tastefully, while still crafting a story that's creepy and touching. The action is fast-paced, the dialogue is sharp, and the chemistry between the two leads is excellent. The film juggles comedy and drama so well, it's no surprise Scream writer Kevin Williamson had a hand in the script.

What is most commendable about Sick, is how the COVID angle never feels tacked on or ham-fisted. Instead, it compliments the narrative in a way that heightens the tension and makes the ensemble more endearing.

The subject matter can be too close to home for some, which might be why certain people didn't bother to give Sick a look. However, it's a must-watch for anyone who is up for a slasher that thinks outside the box.
