4. Terminator 2: Judgement Day (1991)
Though the first Terminator is an undisputed classic in its own right, it doesn't hold a candle to its James Cameron-directed follow-up T2: Judgement Day, which surely ranks as one of the greatest movie sequels ever made.
The raging sequel follows Arnie's titular Terminator as he travels back in time to find John Connor (Edward Furlong), only this time he's been programmed to protect the boy rather than kill him. On his tail is the unstoppable T-1000 (Robert Patrick), and by his side stands former enemy Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton).
Much more action-packed than its predecessor, Judgement Day is a relentless masterpiece of destruction and timeless action sequences which become more exciting with every inevitable re-watch.
A classic "save the future by protecting the past" slice of cinematic adrenaline, T2 is one of the finest time travel movies ever conceived, and helped create many of the cliches which characterise the subgenre to this day.
