10 Great Movies It’s Cool To Hate

Until Split was released earlier this year, director M. Night Shyamalan’s career had become something of a joke and his once masterful plot twists so predictable they practically became a trope themselves. While it’s true that films in his later career like The Happening and The Last Airbender are godawful, it doesn’t mean that earlier Shyamalan offerings should be tainted by their sub-par successors.
Case in point: Shyamalan’s 2002 alien invasion horror Signs. Yes, it has its implausible elements – namely Mel Gibson playing a priest and aliens that are deathly allergic to water invading a planet that is 70% water – and its ending is a bit cheesy but it’s still a creepy film with a brilliant build-up.
And don’t even try to deny that you crapped your pants when Shyamalan’s alien makes its big screen debut at the Brazilian kid’s birthday party. We all did.
