Based upon Bryan Lee O'Malley's hit indie comic book, Scott Pilgrim already had a dedicated following. With comic book movie adaptations making huge business at the box office, picking up one of the coolest IP's on the indie comic scene was a no brainer for studio executives.

Soon after it was optioned Edgar Wright became attached to direct and it seemed like a match made in a movie studio heaven. In terms of the movie itself, it was. Scott Pilgrim Vs the World is a brilliant blend of video game inspired comedy, with a wonderfully dry sense of humour combined with over-the-top fantastical action. It's one of the most unique movies to have come out in recent years and garnered much critical and audience praise upon release.

Unfortunately however, the film failed to light the box office on fire, only grossing $47.7 million at the worldwide box office on a $60 million budget. Fortunately, its positive reception with online film fans means it has since obtained a cult following and became a hit on home media.
