10 Great Movies You Probably Missed (That You Can Now Catch On Netflix)

2. About Time

There are dozens of romantic comedies and time travel movies out there, but there aren't a whole lot that choose to combine the two genres. About Time does just that, following Tim Lake (Domhnall Gleeson), a young man with the ability to time travel - but only to places and times he's been before.

It's an intriguing setup for a romantic comedy, and About Time exploits its premise to maximum effect. Since Tim uses his ability to improve his love life, he tries to cut every corner possible, including telling someone he loves them multiple times to see which attempt has the best effect, sabotaging a girl's relationship so he can be with her instead, and reliving his sexual encounters until he gets them just right. Smooth.

About Time was a modest box-office success and received decent reviews, but it's one of those movies you never hear anyone raving about, despite how great it actually is. The ending is devastating and uplifting all at the same time, Gleeson and co-star Rachel McAdams have never been better, and on the whole, it's sweet, funny, and the perfect treat to watch if you're having a rough day (or week).

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
