10 Great Sci-Fi Movie Villains Who Only Appeared Once
8. Aliens - Attack The Block
No matter how many times we include Joe Cornish’s charming,
ambitious, and surprisingly dark 2011action thriller Attack the Block in lists
of underrated sci-fis/ genre flicks/ Brit flicks/ horror-action-thriller-etcs,
we’re always going to jump at the chance to hype this gem wherever possible.
Serving as a springboard for the career of future Star Wars, er, star John Boyega, this gritty but funny flick sees a gang of tough but ultimately good-natured kids going up against some form of extra-terrestrial threat in their tower block home, and follows their scrappy attempts to safeguard their homes using ingenuity and brute force in equal measure.
The film benefits from a quick-witted script and stellar performances, but its secret weapon is the inventive design of its aliens, a neon-toothed mash up of gorilla posture and musculature paired with some sabre tooth fangs for extra bite. Realized via some trippy CGI, these aliens have a uniquely otherworldly feel which takes away none of their impact, and the creepy creations deserved at least one other onscreen appearance after this modest hit.
