10 Greatest Apocalypse Movies Of All Time
2. Terminator 2
Back in the innocent days of 1991, Terminator 2's insistence that machines would one day rise up and take over the world was a scary - though somewhat unfounded - idea. Two and a half decades later, technology related to artificial intelligence has advanced so rapidly that some of the world's greatest minds, including Stephen Hawking and Elon Musk, have been insistent that extra precautions are taken in the field, lest Skynet becomes a reality.
The idea our sophisticated technology could become self aware and decide to go rogue is perhaps even more relevant today than it was when the T-800 first confronted John Connor all those years ago. That's why Terminator 2 is still so enthralling.
That scene were Linda Hamilton watches helplessly from her nightmare as a nearby playground is obliterated via massive fireball? That should still be enough to send shivers down your spine.
Over the years, the Terminator "mythology" has been reworked and retconned so much that it's practically unrecognizable from T2's relatively straightforward storyline. But no amount of tinkering can dilute this film's cultural impact, and it's unlikely any sequel will unseat this as the greatest doomsday/action movie of all time.
