10 Greatest Disney Death Scenes

1. The Lion King (1994): Mufasa's Death Scene

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_IZVfwrDR9k There is no way I could deny this scene from the top spot of this list. This scene for me is THE most iconic scene (not just death scene) in all of Disney's movies, and even arguably THE most iconic scene in all movies from the 90's. Although I am someone who does cry at movies (I have even written a whole post on WhatCulture about the movies I have cried at) I don't think I have cried at any other Dinsey scene other than this one. This is also the scene which is probably the most responsible for making me question the idea and finality of death. As I said in the introduction to this list, I was probably 5 when I truly realized what death really was (although how can anyone) and baring in mind I didn't see this film in the cinema and had to wait for it to come out on VHS... this means that when I finally got around to seeing this classic film, I was 5 years old. This scene was my introduction as a child to death therefore will always hold a very special and emotional place in my heart. Simba's realization that his father has been killed in the stampede is even to this day difficult to watch, and is even much more complex then you remember is being. Simba was tricked by his uncle into believing that Mufasa's death was his own fault, which led him to leave Pride Rock and not return for many years where he had to deal with his own guilt which he shouldn't have even had in the first place. When you really think about the many mature and complex themes of this movie it isn't difficult to see why this film is loosely based on Shakespeare's Macbeth. A truly stunning film sequence in every sense of the word. Missed your favorite out. Please, let me know in the comments section below...

I am a recent Screenwriting for Film and Television graduate from the UK. I am an unashamed geek who loves everything Marvel, and anything Joss Whedon has ever touched (except for maybe Alien Resurrection and Titan A.E). My current favorite TV shows are Breaking Bad, Family Guy, House of Cards, Game of Thrones, American Horror Story, Homeland and Glee. I look forward to debating things with all of you in the future.
