3. Jay And Silent Bob
The characters have appeared in a myriad of films through out the years, portrayed by Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith.
First appearing in Mallrats as a couple of layabouts who get roped into helping destroy the stage of a local television show, the characters have appears in eight other movies, with two more planned for 2015/2016, as well as an animated series and comic book adaptions.
The best has to be Dogma, which follows Bethany Sloane (Linda Fiorentino) as a divorced Catholic who is loosing her faith after discovering she was infertile, who also just happens to be the last living descendant of Jesus. The film has a star studded cast, considering how much of an indi film it was, including Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Alan Rickman, Salma Hayek, Chris Rock and Jason Lee.
Not only does it cover loss of faith, but the black comedy explores religion in a way most films are still scared to do.
Jay And Silent Bob are classic characters whom almost everyone knows - even if they don't partake in 420.
