10. Paranormal Activity (2007)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_UxLEqd074 I mentioned at the begging of this article how this style of film making allows for amateur writers and directors to make in an easy way a good environment for their movies, and Paranormal Activity is definitely one of the best examples of this, since even the characters are named after the actors. While the film series quickly became the cinematic synonym of the word repetitive, we should give it credit when it deserves it, and the first Paranormal Activity was definitely one of the best films we've seen in a while. Director Oren Peli made an incredibly successful horror movie with just a couple of bucks and managed to scare the living hell out of many. In Paranormal Activity, a couple decides to put several cameras in their house to see what is causing the disturbances that are happening in their house; however it's too late when they find out how bad their situation is. What makes this movie work so much is that it's based on a very simple concept, making us scared from all the little things that scared this young couple. To make matters worse (for them) is the incredible escalation this movie had, it took its time to develop the characters and the demon that tormented them, making the final result all the more scarier. That's something the sequels should learn.
