10 Greatest MCU Villains Of 2021
4. John Walker
Some MCU villains, like Loki or Killmonger, are universally loved in spite of their habits of killing so many people. Too many are far too forgettable, but every now and then there is a bad guy in the franchise that is just HATED. This was John Walker, and it wasn’t a bad thing, as this is what he was supposed to be.
It turns out that nothing gets fans of the MCU heated like replacing Steve Rogers as Captain America. After just seconds of screen time, Wyatt Russell’s character was disliked like no other in MCU history, but after exploring just how unworthy he was as a successor to the Star Spangled Man, the hate just grew deeper.
John was the opposite of Steve Rogers in every way other than the blonde hair and blue eyes for which he was truly picked. He thought his new title demanded respect, he used it to intimidate civilians, and tried to do the same with Sam, Bucky, and the Dora Milaje. In summary, he was a vile villain, who was supposed to be a hero, and who only worsened the situation involving Karli and the Flag Smashers.
However, by the end of the season, as John transformed towards US Agent, he actually made people reconsider their views on him thanks to saving a bus load of innocent bystanders. There is nothing better than a villain you just love to hate, even if the new Captain America was deeper and more developed by the end of the series.
