The Adventures of Captain Zoom in Outer Space is a largely forgotten gem of 90's science fiction. It's pretty safe to say that most people have not heard of this 1995 TV movie. However, as mid-nineties TV movies go, it is one of the better ones.

This film follows a television actor from the 1950's who stars in a live broadcast Flash Gordon/Rocky Jones type of early science fiction series. Four Hundred lightyears away, a genius kid on an oppressed planet has built a device that lets him pick up the TV signal. He gets the idea that Captain Zoom is a real hero and teleports him there to help.

What follows is the humorous and fun story of an actor taking on the real life role of the hero that he plays on TV. For an extra slice of meta goodness, the alien planet where he ends up, "Pangea", is a setting that adheres pretty closely to the tropes of old-fashioned science fiction.

This movie is also notable for it's cast, which includes Nichelle Nichols of Star Trek and Hellboy himself, Ron Pearlman.
