10 Greatest Moments In Paul Thomas Anderson Movies

6. The Return Of H.W. Plainview (There Will Be Blood)

there will be blood This scene is yet another heartbreaking moment in There Will Be Blood, but this time for different reasons. The scene opens with H.W. arriving home while the camera follows him to Daniel across the oil pipeline that Daniel has developed in his absence. Not only is the scene incredibly shot in one long, swift take but the scorn that Daniel faces makes you feel sorry for a man who's only redeeming qualities up to that point had to do with his son. Seeing H.W. attack Daniel is heartbreaking because we know that Daniel sent H.W. away for his own good when he was deafened earlier in the film. This scene is basically a companion to the "bastard from a basket" scene since Daniel hatred for H.W. really starts to build from this moment on since he feels that H.W. doesn't appreciate what he has done for him.

My favorite movies are Before Sunrise, Pulp Fiction, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Alien and Her so don't be surprised to see those pop up in my writing from time to time. I'm currently in school for Journalism/English and I have an obsession with all things cinematic on the side.
