10 Greatest Opening Scenes In MCU History

1. Avengers: Infinity War

Plenty of MCU movies used their opening scenes to introduced their main villain, flesh them out a little as characters, and begin their story. None however, did this quite so well as Avengers: Infinity War did with Thanos. The Mad Titan had been teased for six years, leaving the studio no choice but to produce a stellar villain, which they did and then some.

Before the movie was even ten minutes old Thanos picked up where the Ragnarok post credit scene left off and destroyed the Asgardian vessel. He coaxed the Tesseract from Loki, showed his brute strength and skill in hand to hand combat by ripping the Hulk apart without even using an Infinity Stone, he killed Heimdall, and murdered Loki in front of his own brother.

Never before or since has such a dark tone for an MCU movie been set. There wasn’t even the usual Marvel Studios fanfare over the intro sequence, just Kenneth Branagh’s voice begging anybody for help. Along with some genuinely bittersweet development for the God of Mischief before his lasting death, this scene was exemplary.

There was a lot of pressure on Marvel Studios to deliver on what was the most anticipated comic book movie and comic book villain in history, and they more than hit the ground running. Thanos had arrived, and Infinity War couldn’t possibly have gotten off to a better start.
