10 HATED Actors Everyone Was Wrong About

4. Anne Hathaway

Batman Twilight
Warner Bros.

If there was one person in this list that didn't do anything to antagonize the masses from the start, it's Anne Hathaway. Audience' reaction to her films was well received, but in general the consensus toward her personally was of vitriol.

Her theatre-kid background, wide smile and eagerness to come off as likable (a "Try-Hard", whatever that means) seemed to rebound off audiences so rapidly, they despised her right up until the point where she was collecting her Oscar for Les Miserables. If you do a little research into actually WHY she was so disliked, there was no tangible (or even justified) evidence to suggest she wronged anyone.

She is pretty and talented - and that seems to rub people the wrong way apparently?

Then something happened. Audiences began to sober up as she won everyone over with her excellent performances in films like The Dark Knight Rises, Interstellar and Colossal. Audience and critics have become more self-aware over the years, and thankfully their disdain toward Anne Hathaway has been directed at someone who (might) actually deserve it.

But it's worrying to think that for a brief period, Hathaway was disliked purely for existing and doing her job.

I overthink a lot of things. Will talk about pretty much anything for a great length of time. I'm obsessed with General Slocum from the 2002 Spider-Man film. I have questions that were never answered in that entire trilogy!
