10 Hated Movie Characters That Were Written Out After Fan Backlash
7. Alexander O'Conell - The Mummy: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor
In the second Mummy movie, Rick and Evelyn were given a son, Alex. This led to more perceived tension in the film as Imhotep kidnaps Alex causing Rick and Evelyn to chase after him.
Like most children in films, Alex ended up being annoying to fans as he was incredibly precocious and all-round irritating. He spent much of the movie trying to make wise-cracks at Imhotep and telling him that his parents were gonna come and save him instead of being understandably afraid of this reanimated corpse threatening to kill him.
Oftentimes in movies, child characters are added in to be cute and give the audience a character to want to save. Sometimes though, as with Alex, the character ends up simply irritating fans, dragging the whole movie down. The movie as a whole ended up only scoring 47% on rotten tomatoes, with the character in general feeling flat and uninteresting.
In the third instalment, The Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, Alex wasn't cut completely but to remove the precocious and irritating child, they set the movie later and aged him up, making him a far less irritating character as a whole.
