10 Hated Movie Characters That Were Written Out After Fan Backlash

6. Short Round - Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom

It might be cheating to use two characters from the same movie, but my god if Temple of Doom didn't have some terrible characters.

Short Round was Indy's sidekick in Temple of Doom and suffered from the same problem that Alex O'Connell did in The Mummy movies. Sticking a child sidekick in Indiana jones was a mistake that became one of the main criticisms of Temple of Doom in following years. Combined with the problem of child actors being notoriously awful in older films and Short Round was always going to annoy fans.

While it is easy to see the reasoning behind putting him in the movie, giving children watching a character to relate with and giving parents a character they feel the need to save, it was an experiment doomed to failure.

In The Last Crusade, Spielberg chose to leave Short Round out and, thankfully, he didn't return in Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Though, whether Shia LaBeoef's Mutt was a better character is certainly up for debate.
