10 Hidden DVD & Blu-Ray Horror Movie Easter Eggs You Need To Find
4. Gremlins Vs. John Wayne - Gremlins 2: The New Batch
Nobody who has seen the second Gremlins film will ever forget the immortal, all-timer sequence where the Gremlins literally interfere with the projection of the very movie you're watching, prompting a meta cutaway where Hulk Hogan, who is himself watching the movie, threatens the "Gremsters" into playing the rest of it.
But when the film hit VHS, the Hogan scene was replaced with an alternate sequence where the Gremlins are shown tinkering with the VHS copy of the movie, ultimately switching it with the 1970 John Wayne western film Chisum, which the Gremlins have also inserted themselves into.
The Gremlins eventually get into a gunfight with Wayne's protagonist John Chisum, who shoots most of the Gremlins dead and convinces the rest to play the remainder of Gremlins 2.
Because Wayne died back in 1979, his son Patrick recommended regular Wayne impersonator Chad Everett to provide a vocal stand-in for the late actor.
However, subsequent DVD and Blu-ray releases of Gremlins 2 reverted to the original Hulk Hogan scene, seeming to suggest the John Wayne version had largely been lost to time.
However, that thankfully wasn't so - in the DVD's Special Features menu, all you need to do is move right and select the Gremlin's hand, allowing you to view the scene in all its high-fidelity glory.
