10 Hidden MCU Details You Never Noticed
2. Dr. Strange's Stan Lee Cameo
It not necessarily that hard to get a Stan Lee cameo right. At the end of the day, all Stan needs to do is show up in the movie, maybe crack a joke or two, and then move on to the rest of the action. On the other hand, it's also interesting when you give him something that relates directly to the characters he created.
When going through Dr. Strange, we see Strange trying to ward off Kaecelius in the Mirror Dimension. While most of the imagery and effects in this scene are amazing for what they are, the Easter Egg comes in when Strange slams into a bus, revealing Stan reading a book and talking about how hilarious it is. Then again, the book that he's reading is actually a pretty cool callback to the origins of Marvel.
What Stan is reading is none other than the Doors of Perception, a psychological work about the amazing effects brought on by LSD. Though you can see the connotation of Dr. Strange's visuals feeling like an acid trip, this actually goes back to the beginnings of Marvel, where casual readers were questioning as to whether Lee and Steve Ditko were under the influence when writing their own stories. Even when making a subtle little cameo, the directors behind the scenes really know how to call back to things you weren't even sure of.
