10 Highest Paid Actors & Their Lowest Grossing Movies
9. Melissa McCarthy - The Nines
Salary: $15 million+ per movie
Funny lady Melissa McCarthy has only been in movies since the late '90s (her first feature role came in ensemble crime comedy Go) and her film career didn't really enter the big time until she stole the show in 2011's Bridesmaids (TV fans will know her from Gilmore Girls).
Since then she's made big box office splashes in the likes of The Heat, Tammy, Identity Thief and this summer's Spy, all of which have seen her enter into the range of being able to demand upwards of $15 million per big starring role. That won't include indie fare like St. Vincent but pretty much inevitable sequels to The Heat and Spy will earn her big paydays.
Lowest Grossing Film: The Nines (2007) - $131k
A few year's before smash hit Bridesmaids, McCarthy starred in this fascinating, very underrated fantasy mystery opposite Ryan Reynolds, Hope Davis and her real life husband Ben Falcone. The film follows a troubled actor, a TV showrunner and a video game designer (all played by Reynolds) whose lives seem to be mysteriously intertwined. Like Reynolds, McCarthy has several different roles in each of the segments.
It's a weird and offbeat film that's hard to pin down, one that audiences just didn't know what to make of which resulted in a big box office flop.
