7. The Great Gatsby
Admittedly Scott F. Fitzgerald's classic novel is a soft spot for me. The novel was one of my favorites in high school, with themes that have remained relevant even today. The Great Gatsby is a riveting study of the American Dream and the price that each individual is willing to pay to attain The Dream. Leonardo DiCaprio stares as the titular character Jay Gatsby, a man with it all; money, power, and a grand reputation. The novel is structured around Nick Carraway's, as played by Tobey Maguire, integration into the high stakes, high price lifestyle of America's elite; as well as his budding friendship with his neighbour, DiCaprio's Gatsby. No doubt this is another film where Leonardo DiCaprio will once again chase his ever elusive Oscar. Sprinkle in talents such as Carrie Mulligan and Joel Edgerton and The Great Gatsby has the talent to captivate. Add in Bollywood icon and legend Amitabh Bachan and the international appeal continues to grow. Directer Baz Luhrmann (Mouline Rouge!, Australia) will try to successfully translate the American classic to cinemas May 10th in North America and May 17th in the UK. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yqxmhJU4nk4
