10 Hilarious Actor Pranks (That Went Too Far...)
3. Woody Harrelson And Nick Nolte Pulled A Gun On Sean Penn - The Thin Red Line
In a film of high stakes – it doesn’t get much bigger than life or death – Terence Malick’s war epic The Thin Red Line required the actors involved to immerse themselves in that reality and environment - one that a U.S soldier in Japan in the year 1942 would have to face, with the possibility of death every day.
An army camp involves a lot of testosterone and one-up-man ship is bound to follow suit so when Woody Harrelson and Sean Penn began to trade jibes (Harrelson at one point lined Penn’s helmet with pre chewed bubblegum) there could be only one winner.
The prank in question involved Woody asking co-star Nick Nolte to call Penn from a police station, informing him that he’d been arrested and needed bailing out. Penn, the good soul he is, obliged and headed down to the station to free his cast member.
When he reached the station he found Nolte cuffed in the cell and witnessed a guard fire his gun before the guard bounded towards Sean with the gun drawn. The guard was, in fact, Harrelson.
Needless to say, Penn wasn’t amused and left without giving the two a lift home.
