10 Hilariously Awful DVD Covers

2. Groundhog Day

Groundhog Day is one of my favourite comedies; I mean, you'll struggle to find someone who doesn't at least like it. It's surprising, then, that someone along the line didn't veto this tacky cover for the classic film, which can't even convey the idea of the film properly, while making its stars seem creepily inhuman at the same time. I mean, just look at Andie McDowell, staring up into one corner in the most laughable cliched manner possible, while her shiny, smoothed out skin makes her look more like a Madame Tussaud's wax-work - and a bad one at that - more than anything. The picture of the clock with Bill Murray's arms acting as clock-hands doesn't make a lot of sense. If they want to convey that he's "trapped in time", why not have him banging on the glass of the clock or something? The worst offender of all, however, is Murray's face; not only does he have the same wax-work effect as his co-star, but his cold, dead eyes give him the look of a serial killer, or at the very least someone who is extremely deranged (or better still, the glazed-over look of someone who doesn't want to pose for a publicity still).
