10 Hollywood Remakes Of Foreign Language Movies That Actually Didn't Suck

2. The Birdcage

The Departed Infernal Affairs
United Artists

This wonderful comedy was praised for its exploration of LGBT characters while still being hilarious and fun, and grossed $185 million upon its release in 1996.

The Mike Nichols film is famous for its memorable Robin Williams and Nathan Lane performances, which earned its cast a collective Best Ensemble SAG award.

The film is actually a remake of a 1978 Italian film titled La Cage aux Folles, which won its star Michel Serrault a Cesar award and was nominated for three Academy Awards, including Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay (La Cage aux Folles is itself an adaptation of a play of the same name).
