10 Home Invasion Horror Movies With A Twist
5. Villains (2019)
Bill Skarsgård and Maika Monroe break into your home... stop us if you've heard this one.
Young criminals Mickey (Skarsgård) and Jules (Monroe) are deeply in love and desperate to run away and start a new life, having turned over a few gas station and who only knows what else along the way. Unfortunately for them, the house they enter when their car breaks down in the middle of leafy nowhere belongs to Gloria (Kyra Sedgwick) and George (Jeffrey Donovan), a pair of middle-aged kooks with a little girl tied up in their basement and plenty of skeletons in their closet.
The tables are soon turned on Mickey and Jules, and it is all they can do to get out of the house alive, rebuffing the couples attempts to drug, torture and, umm, hit on them...
Both Skarsgård and Monroe have developed some serious horror credentials of their own in recent years, and seeing familiar faces in such likeable roles is a big boon when it comes to something as potentially dark or dry as Villains. Thankfully, Sedgwick and Donovan are also on form as the crazy couple, and the foursome manage to amuse and delight while nonetheless treading on our emotions and keeping things tense as a tongue ring in the interim.
