10 Horror Film Franchises Worse Than Paranormal Activity

5. Children Of The Corn

If Children Of The Corn (1984) had been a good (or even so-bad-it€™s-good) movie, then history might€™ve played out differently. Unfortunately, it was a godawful waste of celluloid that embarrassed even Stephen King, so sequels appeared unlikely until Dimension Films acquired the rights. Dimension was Miramax€™s new exploitation movie division, which in the early 90s sought only to make cheap sequels for the video market. When Children Of The Corn II: The Final Sacrifice accounted for 25% of the company€™s revenue for that year (along with Hellraiser III: Hell On Earth), it was clear where Dimension€™s future lay. You don€™t watch these movies to see epic storytelling and finely wrought characters, but to see a number of future stars in their salad days. Among those earning a paycheque while waiting for their big break are Charlize Theron (COTC III: Urban Harvest), Naomi Watts (COTC: The Gathering) and Eva Mendes (COTC V: Fields Of Terror). Worst Offender: Children Of The Corn V: Fields Of Terror (1998), for wasting the talents of David Carradine and Fred Williamson. The scene where Carradine€™s head splits open and a flamethrower comes out, however, is awesome.
