10 Horror Films You Didn't Know Were Being Remade
1. Arachnophobia
For horror fans of a certain age, 1990's Arachnophobia is an undeniable genre touchstone: a horror-comedy which manages to be both hilarious and genuinely terrifying all at once.
And even though it only performed modestly well at the box office, it's still surprising that Hollywood's taken more than 30 years to get a remake into development.
Last June, it was announced that James Wan and original director Frank Marshall were teaming up to co-produce a remake to be written and directed by Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day, Freaky).
Landon's certainly a solid enough choice to direct, and spiders have lost absolutely none of their terrifying lustre with the general public over the last three decades, but all the same, it's gonna be tough to recapture the original's spirit.
While living up to its B-movie-homaging tone and excellent cast - especially John Goodman - will be challenging, the remake's greatest task lies in matching the original's brilliant practical effects.
It's basically a given that the remake will instead employ CGI spiders, which risks severely reducing the charm factor compared to the original's in-camera effects.
