10 Horror Films You Didn't Know Were Being Remade

7. The Toxic Avenger

The Toxic Avenger
Troma Entertainment

The Toxic Avenger is surely the most famous film ever produced by the great B-movie peddlers Troma Entertainment - a splatter-filled superhero black comedy focused around a teenage dweeb who is transformed into the titular hero after falling into a drum of toxic waste.

The original 1984 film went on to become a cult classic and spawn three direct sequels, though a planned fifth film ultimately never came to fruition.

However, in 2010 a remake of the original movie was first announced and went through several iterations before, in 2018, Macon Blair (I Don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore) was hired to write and direct.

As talented as Blair is, the real coup here is the shockingly distinguished cast he's managed to rope in. Peter Dinklage will play the title character, while the supporting cast includes Jacob Tremblay, Kevin Bacon, and Elijah Wood among others.

Shooting wrapped in August 2021 and the MPA gave it a strong R-rating more than a year ago, so it's safe to say we're probably not too far from the movie finally being released.

While it'll be tough to recapture the campy vibe of the original, with so much talent attached it's tough not to be intrigued.
