10 Horror Movie Characters Who Didn't Really Have To Die
8. Brody - Jaws: The Revenge

Jaws: The Revenge centres around Ellen, the widow of the original film's protagonist, Chief Martin Brody. When her son, Sean, is killed by a great white shark, Ellen is left inconsolable, especially since she only lost her husband several years ago.
Now, because Chief Brody is one the most iconic movie heroes of the 1970s, viewers were upset he didn't make an appearance (especially since the actor, Roy Schneider, was still alive at the time).
But that not's the only reason why fans of the original were annoyed Jaws: The Revenge killed him off. When Ellen says she's lost two family members to sharks, her other son, Michael, points out that "dad died of a heart attack". Ellen corrects him, saying the fear of another shark attack was what really killed him.
Just to remind you, Chief Brody took it upon himself to destroy the original great white when it invaded the sea in Amity island. When another toothy fiend terrorised the waters in Jaws 2, Brody didn't hesitate to hunt it down. Considering Brody has killed two great whites single-handedly, there's no question he is a badass.
And then Jaws: The Revenge throws that away, claiming Brody lived his last remaining years quaking in his boots that another shark would terrorist his hometown, causing his heart to give out. This plot point isn't just disrespectful to the character - it dilutes the legacy of the the first film.
