10 Horror Movie Characters Who Died Off-Screen In The Sequel
8. Mr. Wing - Gremlins 2: The New Batch
He may be a relatively minor character in the grander scope of the Gremlins franchise, but without Mr. Wing (Keye Luke) we would've never been introduced to adorable little Gizmo.
Mr. Wing is of course the antique shop owner who has possession of Gizmo at the start of the movie, and who takes him back from Billy Peltzer (Zach Galligan) at the end.
Wing appears briefly at the beginning of Gremlins 2: The New Batch, and though it's made abundantly clear the man's health is failing, we don't actually see him die on-screen.
After business magnate Daniel Clamp's (John Glover) chief of security Forster (Robert Picardo) meets with Mr. Wing and notices that he's in poor health, he implies that Wing won't have long to live, allowing him to "acquire" Gizmo following his death. And at that moment, the scene shifts to six weeks later, where Wing has passed away off-screen, all while a distraught-looking Gizmo mourns his late owner, even rocking a cute black armband for good measure.
Even for a "family-friendly" movie as dark as this, it's not like we absolutely, positively needed to see an old man keel over before our very eyes, right?
