10 Horror Movie Cliffhangers Nobody Cared About

I Know What You Did Last Summer ended with protagonist Julie James (Jennifer Love Hewitt) surviving Ben Willis' (Muse Watson) murderous rampage and seemingly getting on with her life.

But the final scene shows Julie being attacked in a shower room, seemingly setting up a sequel which picks up from this point, only for I Still Know What You Did Last Summer to reveal that the cliffhanger was actually a mere nightmare.

In the very least, the first movie's ending actually left audiences interested to see the sequel, which beyond turning that cliffhanger into a fake-out, effectively repeated the same ending.

After Julie survives her second ordeal, she's shown once again living a normal life, married to Ray (Freddie Prinze Jr.) and getting ready for bed one night.

But in their bedroom, Julie suddenly spots Ben underneath her bed, and before she can do anything, he pulls her underneath and the film suddenly cuts to black. The End.

Again, the audience is left to consider whether this is another of Julie's nightmares or Ben has inexplicably survived once more.

Either way, given that the sequel flopped at the box office and this thread was consequently never picked up again, it's clear that nobody gave much of a damn about it.

The lesson here? If you jerk the audience around with fake-outs, you can't be too surprised when they stop caring.
