10 Horror Movie Douchebags Who Actually Survived

7. Charlie Sandin - The Purge

It might seem a little mean to call a young boy a douchebag, but some acts are just too egregiously stupid to warrant the audience's sympathy, and this sure is one of them.

In the first Purge movie, James Sandin (Ethan Hawke) has made great pains to protect his family on Purge Night by equipping their home with a high-tech, seemingly impenetrable security system.

This quickly goes to hell, however, when James' son Charlie (Max Burkholder) spots a wounded man (Edwin Hodge) outside who is being relentlessly hunted by Purgers.

And so Charlie goes off-piste, making the decision to disable his home's security system and let the man inside.

The ethics of Charlie's act can certainly be debated, but in giving the man shelter he ensured that the Purgers would target their home. Charlie even continues to help the man hide while his own family attempts to locate him in their house.

Charlie's "benevolent" act ultimately leads to the death of his father, and the fact that he didn't lose any other family members is really only the result of dumb luck.

All Charlie had to do was sit tight and play video games for 12 hours, but he instead took a recklessly naive risk and wasn't even the one to pay the price for it.
