10 Horror Movie Franchises With Only One Great Movie

3. The Ring

Final Destination
DreamWorks

Let's get this out of the way now before things get super confusing; we're only talking about the English language Ring films here. That's The Ring, The Ring Two, and Rings.

We're not including any of the original Japanese films in the series or the Korean remake.

Got it? Good.

A remake of the 1998 Japanese movie Ring, 2002's The Ring stars Naomi Watts as a journalist trying to solve the secret of a cursed video tape before it claims the life of her young son.

It's the whole "watch it and then you die" thing that has been co-opted by thousands of scam emails over the years.

The Ring was received very well upon its release and a sequel, The Ring Two, got put out in 2005 with Japanese director Hideo Nakata at the helm. You'd think this would help the project. You'd be wrong.

The sequel was slammed for its cliched and dull script to the point where it took a full 12 years for a third movie to get made. They'd needn't have bothered, because Rings was the worse one yet.

You won't die if you watch these sequels, although you might wish you had.
