Right at the tail-end of the Golden Age of the Movie Musical (from the 1930s to the late 1950s), the Martin and Lewis duo starred in a remake of the 1940 horror comedy Ghost Breakers. Due to the musical talents of both however, this new iteration is full of toe tapping tunes. Including one about enchiladas, as you do.

After inheriting her family home that sits off the coast of Cuba, Mary Caroll (Lizabeth Scott) travels there despite being warned not to do so, and is accompanied by an entertainer and his pal (played by Martin and Lewis). Without giving too much away, those warnings should have been heeded as soon enough, chaos ensues! Monsters, mystery, music and treasure all rear their heads in this story. It’s a genuine joy to watch, with tightly timed slapstick routines going hand in hand with scares that are more fun than frightening.

The music itself is gorgeous, thanks in part to the stellar voices of Martin and Lewis, but Carmen Miranda steals the show with her beautiful voice in what was her last cinematic performance before her death two years later.
