10 Horror Movie Remakes That Were Just Announced

Takashi Miike's Audition is one of the most infamous horror films of the last 25 years - a brilliantly stomach-churning experience which served as a gateway drug into extreme world cinema for many.

Work on a remake actually began in 2014, when veteran producer Mario Kassar began assembling a new adaptation of Ryu Murakami's source novel, with Richard Gray (Sugar Mountain) signed to write and direct.

This remake ultimately stalled, and Kevin Bacon recently revealed that he also attempted to develop an English-language retelling of Audition to no avail. But back in January, Kassar and Focus Features announced that the remake was finally happening, with Christian Tafdrup - writer-director of the original Speak No Evil - attached to both direct and co-write the script alongside his brother Mads.

Many will certainly decry this remake's lack of "necessity," though it's genuinely surprising that it's taken more than 25 years to get a remake of an iconic Japanese horror film in front of cameras. Tafdrup's filmmaking chops aren't in doubt, though much of the film's success will rest on who ends up being cast in the role of the central femme fatale.
