10 Horror Movie Villains Who Returned More Badass

8. Jason Voorhees - Friday The 13th Part III

Child's Play 2

To the uninitiated, it must feel like Jason Voorhees has always been the main villain of the Friday the 13th series, considering how strongly associated his image is with the franchise.

However, those in the know will be aware that Jason as he is today didn’t show up until three movies in.

In the original Friday the 13th, Jason is believed to be dead for most of the runtime. The villain is actually his mother Pamela, who is out for revenge over his son’s demise. It’s only right at the end that it’s revealed that he survives as a disfigured corpse resting at the bottom of Crystal Lake.

He takes a much more prominent role in the second film, graduating to dry land to stalk more unfortunate camp counsellors. But this version of Jason still feels incomplete.

It wouldn’t be until Friday the 13th Part III (which really should have been called “Sunday the 15th”) that the legendary man-beast took full form. This is the movie where he gains his signature hockey mask and trademark knife, finally giving the series its key piece of iconography.

The burlap sack was never going to sell toys, Jason.
