10 Horror Movies Test Audiences Loved (And Everyone Else Hated)

1. Before I Wake

Before I Wake
Relativity Media

Mike Flanagan's Before I Wake was shot in late 2013, and spent the next few years languishing in post-production hell due to the bankruptcy of U.S. distributor Relativity Media.

And while the film was still awaiting its North American release in 2017, Flanagan revealed in an interview with The Playlist that it had tested incredibly well, faring even better than Flanagan's previous horror hit Oculus, which was both a critical and commercial smash.

And while Before I Wake fared not-bad with critics when Netflix finally dropped it in the U.S. in early 2018, the audience response was considerably more divisive, and today it's generally held to be by far the weakest of Flanagan's movies.

Furthermore, it bombed on international theatrical release, and has since largely been forgotten by all but the most die-hard horror fans, all while Oculus - which, again, this movie tested better than - remains a commercially successful cult fave.
