10 Horror Movies That Deserve A Sequel (But Will Never Get One)
1. They Live
In John Carpenter's They Live, drifter Nada (played by the late Roddy Piper) stumbles upon special sunglasses that reveal an alien conspiracy that uses subliminal messages to control humanity.
They Live served as a commentary on political unrest in the U.S. during the 1980s, but the quotable sci-fi thriller has resonated with the masses on a deeper level, remaining permanently relevant. Being one of Carpenter's most popular films, a sequel would be more than welcome.
Now, the original concluded with Nada exposing the alien conspiracy worldwide, seemingly wrapping up everything in a neat little bow. However, They Live 2 could focus on the aftermath, since a revelation on this scale would have global repercussions. Can humanity and the invaders come to an understanding, or will it lead to a planetary war?
There are also unanswered questions that could be explored in a follow-up. How long have these extraterrestrials walked amongst humanity? What famous figures throughout history were aliens in disguise?
Sadly, though John Carpenter considered They Live 2, he had difficulty finding interest or finances. While a potential sequel or remake was announced in 2023, any further details dried up soon after. Technically, that project hasn't been officially cancelled, but we'll believe They Live 2 is happening when we see it.
