10 Horror Movies That Instantly Told You They Were Garbage

9. Alien 3

Halloween Resurrection
Fox

Aliens was a seminal sci fi actioner that wowed critics and audiences alike. After two hours of terror and spectacle, the film ended on a relatively positive note with Ripley and co. in hypersleep on their way back to Earth after defeating the Xenomorph Queen.

Beloved by fans, it would be rather silly to, say, kill off everyone bar Ripley in a deflating freak crash with the unfortunate reveal that they never even made it to Earth.

Thanks to some contrived shenanigans involving a facehugger and a ship malfunction, that's precisely the direction Alien 3 went in.

Essentially throwing much of what Aliens built up under a bus, the rest of Alien 3 isn't much better. Back to just the one Xenomorph for the most part, this smaller scale, weakly plotted threequel was so bad director David Fincher disowned it and even considered quitting directing soon after.

Rather than carrying on neatly from its predecessor, Alien 3 attempted to rehash Aliens' opener with a few tweaks. For fans, it was a frustrating step back in a franchise that had been near flawless until then. Needless to say, there was plenty more disappointment to be had in pretty much every Alien-related film since.
