10 Horror Movies That Subtly Spoil The Ending Early
5. Sissy (2022)
Hannah Barlow and Kane Senes’ as-yet underseen and underappreciated satirical slasher Sissy takes aim at the influencer and social media culture we’re all either living or suffer by osmosis, and doesn’t hold back on the gory details.
Cecilia and Emma (Aisha Dee and Hannah Barlow) bump into each other at the pharmacy, having fallen out of contact since high school, and Emma invites Cecilia to her hen party - a weekend away in a remote cabin, with a group of catty friends whose number includes Alex (Emily De Margheriti), Cecilia’s old bully.
Tensions rise as Cecilia is belittled and ignored, and it isn’t long before she’s somewhat accidentally enacting her vengeance upon them. There’s just one thing: Cecilia’s meeting with Emma was not coincidental, and she’s been living in a delusional, social media-driven dreamworld, stalking her old friend, engineering their chance meeting, and doing everything she can to not only get invited on the trip but be the person she thinks Emma wants - including driving a yellow car and dying her hair pink, which is something Emma said she wants.
Barlow and Senes plant this reveal in the film’s early pharmacy scene: Cecilia has already picked up the pink hair dye, and is driving the yellow car, before she bumps into Emma, demonstrating her obsession, her delusion, and that her plan was premeditated from the start. And, as a neat little topper, Emma’s invite text thereafter says, "be there or DIE!"
