10 Horror Movies That Will Put You Off Travelling After Watching

4. The Ritual

Adapted from Adam Nevill's novel of the same name, 2017's The Ritual sees four friends venture to Sweden on a hiking trip in memory of a pal who is murdered in the effort's opening moments.

Given that this is a horror movie, that hiking trip takes a turn for the weird when the foursome take a supposed shortcut through the dark and dank woods. As director Rob Bruckner brilliantly builds tension, our core group start to have bizarre hallucinations, emotions are laid bare, and a lurking presence seems intent on stalking these protagonists.

Currently available on Netflix, The Ritual gets all kinds of trippy by the time all is said and done, with the film revealed to have a god-like Jötunn creature and a cult at its core. Even worse for the picture's key characters, only one of them manages to make it to the closing credits in one piece.

Safe to say, if you've been planning a nice hiking break for you and your buddies, you might want to resconsider those plans - especially if Sweden was on the agenda.
