10 Horror Movies Which Insult Your Intelligence
9. Godsend
Despite being one of Hollywood's most celebrated actors, Robert De Niro has popped up in plenty of duds over the years, and Godsend might be the nadir of his career.
This psychological horror centres around a young couple, Paul and Jessie, who are dealing with the loss of their son, Adam. When De Niro's Dr. Wells clones the boy back to life, it seems like a dream come true. But when Adam displays disturbing behaviour, Paul and Jessie realise they made a terrible mistake.
Simply put, Godsend doesn't have an ounce of creativity. The "evil kid" archetype has been done to death, and all of Godsend's best ideas have been done before in vastly better movies.
On top of that, every aspect of the film is sloppy. The bare-bones script, sluggish pacing, and the leads' lack of chemistry dilute any possible tension, scares, or interest. It's mind-boggling why De Niro agreed to Godsend considering how weak the script is and how thankless his role is. Then again, he said yes to Rocky & Bullwinkle...
Also, the big reveal why Adam's clone turned evil is so ridiculous, it's challenging not to yell, "Oh, come on!"
