10 Horror Movies You Didn't Know Got Cancelled
3. Saw XI
Following the unexpected critical and commercial success of Saw X, it wasn't remotely surprising that an eleventh film was swiftly given the green light, with Saw XI originally announced to release on September 27, 2024, less than a year after its predecessor hit screens.
However, the film - planned to be a direct sequel to Saw X, with Tobin Bell returning once again alongside director Kevin Greutert - was ultimately pushed a year to September 26, 2025.
Despite a version of the script being turned in last year, reports emerged in recent months that development had stalled due to business disagreements between franchise producers Oren Koules and Mark Burg and studio Lionsgate, without whom Saw XI can't go ahead. "Zero progress" has been made on the film for around a year, and though nobody involved evidently wants to use the word "cancelled," there's clearly little optimism that the stalemate can be resolved, and one insider indeed called it "totally dead". Plus, with Tobin Bell turning 83 years old this summer, the clock is undeniably ticking.
While it's highly unlikely that the Saw franchise is dead forever more, it also doesn't seem like the dispute will be resolved in time to deliver a legitimate sequel to Saw X.
