10 Horror Remakes You Had No Idea Were In The Works
8. Maniac Cop
The Maniac Cop series is waiving its right to remain silent and returning to the beat in a reboot helmed by John Hyams.
The William Lustig original about a disfigured police officer who goes on Jason Voorhees-inspired rampage after being betrayed by the city he served was a minor cult hit, but it was followed by a pair of dud sequels.
That doesn't appear to have deterred Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn from tenaciously pursuing a remake, and it was given the green light earlier this year.
Refn will serve as producer on the project and provide some creative input, while Hyams is expected to helm in collaboration with Lustig.
The Maniac Cop remake has been described as a “contemporary and realistic action thriller” rather than a horror movie, which sounds like more of a cop out than anything.
